In June of 2019,

Terry Koval and his wife, Jenn, opened their dream restaurant in Decatur, GA, the town they’ve called home since 2006. The new venture signified an opportunity to focus on farmer relationships and local sourcing to support Chef Terry’s vision of a scratch kitchen built on slow food.

Now more than four years later, The Deer and The Dove continues to evolve — representing not only a dream, but the home to a growing family and community. We take immense pride in all the friendships and connections we’ve made, and the continued opportunity to share our passion and dedication to curating a menu and dining experience that reminds us
how our food comes to be.

James Beard Foundation Award Winner

We are incredibly proud to announce that our favorite boss, founder, and hell-of-a-guy Chef Terry Koval has been recognized by the James Beard Foundation as BEST CHEF-SOUTHEAST 2023! This is an amazing honor, it’s the culmination of a lifetime of work and honing of craft. If you’ve been to The Deer and The Dove you’ve experienced the total tonnage of his abilities. Every aspect of what we are came from him and the environment he created to foster the talents of others. He would be the first to admit that he did not accomplish this alone. He is backed by a phenomenal team (not the least of which is Jenn Kapioski Koval). We are proud, we are humbled by this honor, and we hope to continue to share our vision with you for years to come.

Georgia Organics, a statewide non-profit providing support to local and organic farmers, officiates a yearly awarding of Farmer Champion distinctions recognizing members of the food service community who strive to support the “good food” movement by supporting Georgia producers and proving the sourcing locally is possible.

The Gold Level states that The Deer and the Dove and B-Side spend at least 5% of our total food costs Certified Organic (purchased in state) + 20% local.
